At akt we celebrate the wide spectrum of LGBTQ+ identities, our digital team offers an accessible service to those who can’t access face-to-face support

akt’s digital team supports LGBTQ+ young people (16-25) outside of London, Greater Manchester, North East and South West England who are threatened with/experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment.

Currently 9.4% of the young people that the Digital team supports are in the East Midlands, making it our most in-demand region after the South East, North West and East Anglia.

We know that there is a lack of LGBTQ+ services across the East Midlands, and those services that do exist have limited resources to help young people who may be facing housing issues and homelessness. We also know that the East Midlands has some of the most deprived areas in the country, including Nottingham, and we believe that this deprivation will only be exacerbated by the Cost of Living crisis.

This is why akt has invested in an East Midlands-specific team member who will offer remote, one-to-one casework to LGBTQ+ young people as well as building links with local organisations in order to increase access to suitable housing options and holistic support for those young people.

Summer, our East Midlands Digital Caseworker, says “I’m so excited to be working with young people in the East Midlands. We will also be working towards building relationships with local homelessness services and connecting with regional LGBTQ+ groups to deliver the best service we can. If you are experiencing homelessness or threatened with it, or are living in a hostile environment contact us at [email protected]. You can also contact us from 10-5 Monday to Friday on our live chat service to make a referral or get some advice about homelessness.”
