Newcastle Teakisi Women Talk - The Bridge Conference Space - 10th October The event aims to empower through informative speeches, talks, spoken word, drama, conversations and networking; celebrate the culture and heritage of Africa, BME communities, and people of African descent and learn from each other while sharing life experiences. London Black Girl Fest - Business Design Centre - Saturday 12th October 2019 The UK's first festival celebrating Black women and girls is back and better. The theme for Black Girl Festival 2019 is ‘Taking Up Space.’ From tech, literature to hair and beauty, Black Girl Fest wants to take up space across various industries and champion inclusivity. Alongside carefully curated talks, workshops and masterclasses, they'll be hosting a marketplace, exhibitions, live performances, screenings and more. If you are a Black woman or girl and are unable to afford the cost of a ticket, please email them at [email protected] with your full name and 'Free ticket' and they can provide you with a free ticket. Children under the age of 4 go free. Out of Darkness screening - St Ann's Library - Thursday 3rd October 2019 Out of Darkness is a full-length three-part documentary examining the untold history of African people, the African cultural contribution to the nations of the world, and the events that have contributed to the condition of African people today. Tickets are free. Black History Month exhibition - Alexandra Park Library - 1-31th October Exhibition by local artist and painter Pauline Ferguson showing predominantly black British life from mass immigration to laying down roots in life to date. The exhibition will introduce foods, music, experiences, vibrancy, the ethos and culture which has helped to enrich this country. No booking necessary. Black History Month Pop-Up Market - Impact Brixton - 19-20th October Celebrate the vibrance of African and Caribbean businesses. Read Londonist's 10 ways to mark Black History Month Manchester Brilliant and Black: Celebrating Black Achievement - Manchester University - Thursday 10th October Public lecture given by David Olusoga OBE to celebrate Black History Month at The University of Manchester. The event is for staff, students and members of the general public. The event is free but please ensure you have registered for a ticket to be able to attend. Queens of Sheba - HOME - Tuesday 1st October to Saturday 5th October Queens of Sheba tells the hilarious, moving and uplifting stories of four passionate Black Women battling everyday misogynoir – where sexism meets racism. BAME Black History Celebration - Middleton Arena - Thursday October 24th An annual event to appreciate black culture and to teach others about black culture and history. Expect to see poetry, a fashion parade, hair, makeup, multiple stalls, entertainment and a raffle. Entry is free to the event and food is also provided for free. Black Then, Black Now - Central Library - 1st, 28th 30th October Over the three days, events will include a series of art performances and workshops curated from real life stories of the diaspora surrounding food, creativity, art, health and wellbeing. Di Journey screening - Partisan Collective - Wednesday 23rd October Join the Partisan Screenings Team for a screening of Di Journey, a socio-historical documentary comprehensively exploring immigration and race relations through the chronicles of the African-Caribbean community in Britain.
