Seeking Support

Our research showed that most young people sought support from their friends whilst homeless, with low levels turning to support services and low levels of awareness of a range of support services available. Read more

Impact of Homelessness

Once homeless, LGBTQ+ youth are more likely to experience violence and discrimination, develop substance misuse problems, be exposed to sexual exploitation and engage in higher levels of risky sexual behaviour compared to their non-LGBTQ+ peers. Read more

The Data Gap

From our research we know that up to 24% of young people identify as LGBTQ+. However, the government does not publish statistics on sexuality and gender identity across age and there are still significant issues with the quality of the data recorded. Read more

Causes of Homelessness

Most young people will not face homelessness because they are straight or cisgender. However, 77% of the young people akt support cited family rejection and abuse after coming out or being outed as the primary reason for their homelessness. Read more
